Aviva Ireland announces the appointment of Hugh Hessing as CEO. Mr Hessing has most recently been leading initiatives across the Aviva group to develop simpler, quicker and more efficient ways to serve customers.
He joined Aviva in 2006 and was Director of Sales, Services and Claims in the UK and Ireland General Insurance business. He subsequently held the position of Customer Experience Director in Aviva’s UK Life business. He brings a wealth of experience to Aviva Ireland, especially in customer facing roles in both Life and General Insurance.
“I am looking forward to working with the team in Aviva Ireland to build on the considerable progress made over the last year. Aviva is a leading brand in the Irish insurance industry and we are well placed to take full advantage of the strong recovery now underway in the Irish economy.”
Mr Hessing replaces Alison Burns who is stepping down as CEO for family reasons. Ms Burns joined Aviva Ireland in August 2012 and was appointed CEO in July 2013. She will remain in the Aviva Group.
“I have enjoyed my time in Aviva Ireland and while I am sorry to be leaving, I am happy that the business is now in a strong position to move forward. Our recently published half year results show good progress has been made across our three businesses. We have a strong leadership team which will ensure that Aviva Ireland capitalises on the opportunities for commercially sustainable growth in a rapidly recovering market. I look forward to continuing to work in the Aviva Group.”
Ms Burns will remain as a board member of Aviva Health, where she worked as Managing Director when she first joined Aviva in 2012.
