Ireland’s new driving laws –
Essential Driver Training (EDT)

  • If you were issued your first learner permit before 4 April 2011, the new laws will not apply to you
  • The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has introduced a new Learner Driver Training (LDT) syllabus from 4 April 2011
  • All learner drivers who are issued their first learner permit on or after 4 April 2011 must complete 12 Essential Driver Training (EDT) lessons before they will be allowed to take their driving test.

Your theory test

  • Before you book, pick up a copy of The Official Driver Theory Test. A pdf version can be downloaded from www.rsa.ie
  • You must get 35 of the 40 questions correct to pass
