The following is only an overview of the features and benefits available to you at Aviva. Please download our MotorCare Policy Booklet for the complete details on all our car insurance benefits. It also sets out the terms and conditions of cover. The policy schedule shows your cover and any extra benefits or amendments that may apply.
Breakdown Rescue Cover
Our Breakdown Rescue cover will save the day if you have a breakdown emergency anywhere in Ireland, England, Scotland or Wales. It covers the following types of breakdown:
- Mechanical breakdown
- Fire, theft, attempted theft or malicious damage
- Punctures you need help with to fix
- Wheel replacement
- Lost or stolen keys
- Keys broken in locks or locked in your car
All you need to do is call us at 1800 44 88 88 - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We will provide you with roadside and driveway assistance. If you have had an accident, we will provide towing cover. If your car has been stolen and is not recovered within 24 hours, we will provide a replacement car for up to five days or until your car is recovered - whichever is sooner.
Driving Other Cars
We will provide you, the policyholder, with Third Party cover when you drive a car someone else owns, providing you hold a current full EU or Irish driving licence. Certain occupational restrictions apply. The conditions of this cover are shown in the policy booklet.
Unlimited Windscreen Cover
Unlimited Windscreen Cover is standard on all Comprehensive car insurance policies when you use one of our aligned windscreen repairers (phone 1890 666 888 for our current list of aligned windscreen repairers). If you use any other windscreen repairer a policy limit of €225 applies. If your policy is Third Party Fire & Theft then you will have to pay an extra premium for this cover
Automatic Temporary Cover
You are automatically covered on any private car up to 2,000cc loaned to you, or a permitted driver covered on your policy, for up to seven days while your car is being serviced or repaired by a registered garage or vehicle repairer. This cover only applies to policyholders who qualify for ‘Driving other cars’ cover.
With this cover you have access to a legal advice helpline you can use to get advice on any personal legal matter. The helpline advice is free and is strictly confidential between you and your legal advisor. Legal expenses cover also provides you with a legal advisor if you need to defend a motoring prosecution.
Finally, this benefit covers you for professional costs and expenses which may arise if you want to make a claim following a motor accident. You will have access to highly-qualified professionals who will be available to give you the best advice on making a claim.

Legal expenses is provided by DAS
DAS is a member of the Insurance Ireland and the Financial Services Ombudsman Bureau of Ireland.
We will provide you with a courtesy car for up to 7 days when yours is being repaired by an Aviva Motor Services repairer in the event of loss or damage caused resulting in a claim under your policy.
Replacement Lock cover up to €1000
If the vehicle keys or lock transmitter of your vehicle are lost or stolen, we will pay for the cost of replacing:
- The door locks and boot lock
- The ignition steering lock
- The lock transmitter and central-locking interface
We will not take off the excess and your no-claims discount will not be affected.
Personal Belongings Cover
We will pay up to €150 for any one event of damage to or loss of personal belongings in your car caused by fire, accident or theft. Making a claim under Personal Belongings cover will not affect your no-claims discount.
Car Phone and Radio Cover
We will pay up to €650 or 5% of the current market value of the car - whichever is less – for damage to or loss of your car phone or audio equipment.
Fire Brigade Charges up to €1000
We will pay for charges made by a fire authority to:
- Control or put out a fire in your car
- Remove the driver or passengers from your car using cutting equipment
24/7 Claims Helpline
Our car insurance claim phone lines are open all day, all night and every day of the year. If you should need us all you have to do is call 1890 666 888. One of our claims handlers will record all the details relating to your car insurance claim and will take immediate steps towards resolving it for you. You will be informed of everything you need to know, such as:
- Whether your car insurance policy covers you for the incident
- What you will have to pay
- All the steps involved in getting your car insurance claim settled
