Hibernian Health welcomes Supreme Court Ruling

Hibernian Health today strongly welcomes the Supreme Court Ruling today in favour of BUPA’s challenge to the constitutionality of the risk equalisation levy triggered by the government.

Research published by Hibernian today shows that the majority of consumers are now focusing on preventative measures to manage their health with as many as 61% going for a full health check-up every year, according to research conducted in the past week by RedC.

Hibernian Health’s message to consumers is to shop around for value and to make sure they are comparing like with like. With significant and unfounded confusion in the market about loss of benefits from switching, Hibernian will offer crystal clarity – switching cover to a comparable plan does not lead to a loss of benefits and can be done with just a phone call.

Hibernian Health is committed to supporting the practice of community rating and will continue to develop products and benefits to suit people of all ages. With the striking down today by the Supreme Court of the risk equalisation scheme there is a clear need to now review the other single largest hindrance to competition in the market which is the dominance and regulation of the Vhi.
