Buying a new car is a very exciting time! With MyAviva Car, you can save time and switch your insurance policy to your new car online with no administration fees.
Before collecting your new car
Make sure you are registered for MyAviva and have the capability to make the change online. Registration is a quick and easy process. All you need is your email address and your policy number.
Call the garage to get your new car registration and confirm the time you will collect your car.
Then proceed with the following steps to transfer your insurance policy to the new car. Remember you can schedule the transfer to the exact date and time up to 5 days before you collect the car.
How to transfer your insurance using MyAviva Car
Step 1: Log in to your car policy here.
Step 2: Select your policy from the dashboard and the option ‘Insure yourself on a different car’ and enter your new car registration.
Step 3: If you have bought a brand new car the online system may be unable to pull your car details automatically. You can still make this change online* but you will need to input the car details manually; make, model, year and engine size.
*If it is a non-Irish registered car please bear in mind that you will need to ring our call centre Monday – Friday 9am - 6pm on 1890 33 55 77 in order to complete your change.
Step 4: Continue through to ‘Confirmation’ stage which will confirm that your new Insurance certificate, disc and policy documents will be forwarded to you in 3-5 working days. Receipt will be emailed to you if there is an email address on the policy.
If you are trading in your old car, make sure to remove your insurance disc from your old car when you pick up your new car from the garage.

My car is brand new; can I transfer my insurance online?
Yes. Our online system may not be able to pull your car details automatically but you can still make this change online but you will need to input the car details manually; make, model, year and engine size.
How long in advance can I schedule a transfer of cover online?
You can schedule a transfer of cover online 5 days in advance. For example, if you are picking up your new vehicle on a Friday, you can log in on Monday and schedule the change for Friday.
How do I register for MyAviva?
To register for MyAviva you will need your email address and your policy number. Click the link below and follow the instructions. If you previously registered you may be asked to sign up again as we have made some improvements to our website.
I bought a UK registered car; can I transfer my insurance online?
No. To transfer your insurance to a non-Irish registered car you must call 1890 33 55 77 and make the change with our contact centre staff.
I bought a car abroad; can I transfer my insurance onto this car to bring it back to Ireland?
Yes, as long as you are the registered owner of the vehicle and you intend on updating the vehicle to Irish registration plates.
However, this cannot be completed online. To transfer your insurance to a non-Irish registered car you must call 1890 33 55 77 and make the change with our contact centre staff.
I will collect my car from the garage tomorrow and I know my registration; can I transfer my insurance online?
Yes. You can schedule a transfer of insurance online up to 5 days in advance.
Once I transfer my cover, do I get cover on my old car for a short period?
No. Once you have completed the transfer there is no cover on the old vehicle.
Will I receive a new certificate and disc after I transfer my insurance?
Yes. After a transfer of insurance you will receive a new certificate and disc along with your policy documents by post in 3-5 working days.
When will I receive my documents?
All documents are issued by standard post. We ask you to allow 3-5 working days for delivery of your documents, although very often they will arrive sooner. If for any reason you have not received your documents within this time, please call us on 1890 33 55 77.
Can I email in my transfer of insurance?
You can request a change to your policy via email. However, requests via email are processed over the phone by our contact centre staff during normal contact centre opening hours (9-6 Monday - Friday) and may incur a €25 administration fee.
