What is Lifetime Community Rating?

Community rating is the principle whereby everyone pays the same premium for the same health-insurance product, regardless of age. Under lifetime community rating (LCR), this policy is modified to reflect the age at which you take out cover. The older you join, the more loading you pay.

If you are aged 35 or older and did not have health insurance before 30th April 2015, your premium may cost more due to the introduction of Lifetime Community Rating.

How do I check that I am covered for a specific treatment?

You can call Irish Life Health on 1890 714 444 to check if you are covered for a specific treatment. Please remember to have the following to hand:

  • Your consultants name.
  • Your procedure code - you can get this from your consultant’s secretary.
  • The name of the hospital you will be attending.
  • Irish Life Health will check that your waiting periods have been served also.

Am I covered for A&E abroad?

Check your table of cover to see the level of cover available to you.  You should call Irish Life Health’s international assistance number on +353 148 17840, in advance of receiving your emergency care, to have your medical care pre-authorised and arranged by Irish Life Health.

Who is eligible for this offer?

This Offer is available to existing customers who have a home or car insurance policy, or both, with Aviva and subsequently purchase a health insurance policy with Aviva. The offer is available to both the health insurance customer and their spouse or partner. Other dependants who are covered by the health insurance policy are not eligible for this Offer.

The discount of 5% will be applied to the existing home and car insurance policy at the next renewal date after the purchase of the health insurance policy.  You will need to contact us on 1850 33 55 77.

Where the policies are not in the same name, please call 1850 33 55 77 to avail of the offer.

The Offer is subject to a minimum premium of €280 for car insurance and €230 for home (€115 for contents only or building only home insurance). 


How do I avail of the offer?

The Offer is available to existing customers who have a health insurance policy with Aviva and subsequently purchase a home or car insurance policy, or both, form Aviva.

Can I transfer an existing car or home policy to Aviva to avail of the discount? 

You can move to Aviva at any time.  You should be aware that if you cancel your policy mid term with another provider you may be charged cancellation fees, so you may want to consider waiting until your existing policy is due for renewal.


Will I get a discount for buying onine?

Yes.  You will get a 10% discount when you buy car insurance online and 15% discount when you buy home insurance online.


Does this offer affect my Aviva multicar discount? 

The offer does not affect your eligibility for a multicar discount.


Does this offer affect my 15% loyalty discount?

This offer does not affect your eligibility for a loyalty discount.


I have availied of the 5% discount on both car and home insurance policies - what happens at renewal? 

The 5% discount is not automatically applied at renewal to your car and home insurancePlease ring the Galway Call Centre 1890 33 55 77 to avail of your 5% discount.


What happens if I make a mid-term adjustment to my policy?

The Offer is not applicable to Mid-Term Adjustments. The Health Insurance Discount is only calculated on the start date or renewal date of your policies. 


What happens if I cancel my health insurance policy?

Your health insurance policy must be active for the Offer to apply.

If you cancel your health insurance policy, your car and/or home insurance policy will no longer be eligible for the 5% Discount at its next renewal.
