What is buildings and contents insurance?
Aviva home insurance product provides buildings and contents cover, but these covers can be purchased separately of each other based on your individual needs. This means that your home’s structure and permanent fixtures and your possessions are protected, while mortgage protection repayments are if the unexpected happens.

How much cover do I need?
To decide how much cover you need for buildings and contents insurance, there are a few things to consider:
- For buildings insurance, you should base your cover on the cost of rebuilding your home. A great resource is the House Rebuilding Guide for Home Insurance from the Society of Chartered Surveyors
- For contents insurance, you can either choose to price your contents as a percentage of the cost of your buildings insurance, or you can personalise your level of coverage. Try Aviva’s Contents Insurance Calculator to work out the value of your contents.
