Aviva is the proud sponsor of the home of Irish Rugby, Aviva Stadium where fans can cheer on their heroes from the best seat in the house during some of our most exciting sporting moments. In previous instalments of the series, Peter O’Mahony and Bundee Aki shared the best seats in their own homes. For the third chapter, another front-row powerhouse, tighthead prop Tadhg Furlong, invited us in to show us his favourite spot.

What's my best seat in the house?
If I was looking to relax in house, I'd sit in the armchair in the sitting room. Put my two little feet up on the pouf. It's a lovely place. There's no ground rules in the sitting room area. Kind of, cups wherever you can, really. Shoes on or off as you please. A little bit of decorum is always welcome. Obviously, if you have mucky shoes, don't be throwing them on the pouf. But other than that, I think a little bit of common sense and we're okay.
I think people think I'm quite serious on the pitch. Maybe I do have that kind of gruff head on me when I am playing, but I tend not to be. Do you know what I mean? Outside of…I think, rugby’s a separate thing and life is a separate thing. I try to keep it that way.
I love the seat in the garden for the summertime. Seeing the little fellow go around cutting the grass is quite therapeutic. For sure, the garden is one of my favourite spots. Luckily enough, we don't have a ride on lawnmower. Obviously, we're not here the whole time, so we have a little robot fellow and he goes around and cuts it for us.
I'm lucky I've had a lot of good away days. Obviously, playing the Aviva’s special, but it was also a nice feeling of trying to go into the Lion's den or to the opposition's backyard and try to do a job.
There's a lot of games played in Aviva stadium, and it never fails to surprise me how well it's maintained and kept.
In the gym, I find it's lovely to get a bit of a physical release or clear the head. When you sit down on that gym bench after finishing it, and you just feel good about yourself. The likes of Andrew Porter, Tom Clarkson, Jack Boyle, some of the younger props, they love the gym. I do prefer working out with the team for a bit of craic and someone to give you a spot, etc. But in your downtime, it's ideal having this in the back garden. Once you get in here and you get the session done, it's lovely sitting down on the bench here and just, you feel good about yourself after doing it.
The kitchen chair has a very special place in my heart, obviously, because you get the grub when you're sitting at the kitchen table. I used to come home from school years ago. We used to get the bus, and my grandmother used to cook us dinner. Her gravy, like, it was Granny's gravy. It was unbelievable. That is my favuorite dinner, Granny's pork chops and gravy. My favourite part about the seat and sitting at the table is, I suppose, it's time with family. Obviously, I have a daughter now, and she tends to eat with us a lot. It has definitely changed over the years, but still, nonetheless, I really enjoy this seat.
A Look Inside Tadhg’s Home Life in Wexford and His Rise in Irish Rugby
Coming from a farming family in County Wexford, Tadhg also has a background in Gaelic football and hurling, but it was rugby where he truly found his stride, starting at underage level with New Ross RFC. Since making his Irish debut in 2015, his trophy cabinet has grown steadily, including a British & Irish Lions tour win in Australia and Ireland’s fourth Triple Crown in the Guinness Men’s Six Nations in 2025.
Off the pitch, Tadhg loves nothing more than spending time at home in County Wexford with his wife and their little girl. He kindly welcomed us in for a look around and a chat and showed us his favourite seats in the house. Whether it’s putting his “feet up on the pouf,” watching the “little fella” cut the grass in the garden, or reminiscing about his granny’s pork chops and gravy, where he spends time with his family is where he calls home.
