Aviva Ireland, with support from the Football Association of Ireland (FAI), has launched ReBoot with Aviva, a nationwide football boot swap initiative designed to help families reduce the cost of grassroots football while promoting sustainability and circularity in communities across Ireland.
The initiative follows new Aviva research which found that the rising cost of children's sport is placing significant pressure on household budgets. More than half of parents (51%) have decided not to enrol their child in a sport or activity because of the cost, while 80% say sports participation creates financial pressure for their household.
ReBoot with Aviva encourages families to donate outgrown football boots that are still in good condition, allowing other young players to access them free of charge through participating schools and football clubs. The programme aims to help more children stay involved in football while reducing waste and extending the lifespan of sports equipment.
Research also revealed a strong opportunity for reuse, with 77% of parents reporting they have at least one usable pair of children's sports boots or shoes sitting unused at home, and 57% having two or more pairs.
Participating schools and clubs will receive dedicated ReBoot collection boxes and promotional materials, and will be entered into a prize draw featuring a €1,000 cash donation, match tickets, a mascot experience at a Republic of Ireland men's senior home fixture, and an exclusive Aviva Stadium tour.
Football plays an important role in the lives of young people across Ireland. ReBoot with Aviva is a simple initiative that can make a real difference by helping families reduce costs, cutting down on waste and supporting more children to stay involved in the game they love.
