What is the UEFA Nations League?
The UEFA Nations League is a biennial tournament that involves all 55 UEFA member countries.
The competing countries are placed into four leagues, based on their current UEFA rankings. Leagues A, B and C all have 16 teams which are split into four groups of four for the league phase. The remaining seven teams, in League D, are split into two groups – one group of four and another of three. The teams in each league will play each other home and away in June and September 2022.
The four League A winners will advance to the knockout finals, which are due to take place in June 2023. The group winners in the other three leagues will all be promoted for the 2024/2025 UEFA Nations League.
The teams that finish fourth in Leagues A and B will be relegated to League B and C respectively. The teams finishing fourth in the League C groups will enter the play-offs in March 2024, with the remaining two teams moving to League D.
