What is contents insurance?
Contents insurance is designed to protect your personal belongings, so they are any household items, personal belongings and valuables within your home which you or any member of your household own. In simple terms its the personal items you would take with you should you decide to move home.
Calculate the value of your contents
Use our handy home contents calculator to help estimate the total value of your home contents. Simply click the box beside each room you have and enter an estimated value beside the contents that you have. The calculator will then add up the value of your contents, so you have an estimate of your contents value when you take out content’s insurance. We suggest that the best way to make sure everything in your home is included, is to make a list of all your belongings and go room by room to ensure you have included all items.
Here are some tips to consider when using our home contents calculator
- If you’re not sure of the value of an item, it’s best to use the price of the item if you were to buy it new.
- Fittings such as built in cabinetry and fitted kitchens are considered part of the building so should not be included when using our home contents calculator.
- If you have high value items such as jewellery, artworks or electrical or sports equipment you should obtain independent valuations and also keep photographs of the items.
1. Offer available when you take out a new policy online. Acceptance criteria, terms & conditions apply. Offer subject to minimum premium of €230 for home insurance (€115 for Contents or Buildings only).
